Trinity Parish Church

Located near the base of First Hill, Trinity Parish Church is one of Seattle’s oldest continually meeting congregations.

The present day church was built immediately after the Great Fire of 1889 and is on the National Historic Register. In 2001, the building was severely damaged by an earthquake.

This project was perfectly suited to Rafn’s long experience in historic renovation and adaptive reuse. Work included major structural seismic reinforcement with concrete and steel, wood structure repair and seismic reinforcement, masonry repair and reinforcement, repair and restoration of ornamental plaster and wood work, new elevator, and new mechanical and electrical systems.

Our history with this product type allowed us to adequately understand the amount of work that would be required to achieve the Owners goals and to price it accurately in preconstruction. Good cost control during the construction process, and through continued value engineering, we were able to deliver over $65,000 in savings back to the Owner. Our relationship with the vendor community allowed us to bring in crews that were experienced in this type of work, guaranteeing the delivery of a first class restoration.

This project was awarded the 2006 Valerie Sivinski Award for Outstanding Achievement in Historic Preservation Rehabilitation from the State Historic Preservation Office.
