Rafn Company performed a reclad of the existing 6 story, 100 unit, workforce housing apartment building on First Hill in Seattle. Rafn originally built the building in 1994 and the siding system had fulfilled its prescribed duty and was ready to be replaced. Performed in a fully occupied facility, this project was completed in three phases over one years time as to create minimal disruptions to the residents.

Because of Rafn’s self performed work capabilities, Bellwether Housing’s project not only stayed on a tight schedule, but increased in scope. In addition to replacing 50,000 sq. ft. of EFIS exterior cladding, Rafn was able to provide a new roof on the building. Self-performed work included removal and replacement of vinyl windows, parapet metal, scaffold installation and containment system, and interior trim. By implementing a highly sustainable stucco exterior cladding, the Cascade Court Apartments building now yields the benefits of a low-maintenance long-life building envelope. The change in cladding will reduce the R value of the building, but it will be made up and slightly improved by the new windows.
